Six New Chicago Wilderness Members;
Total Now 154 Organizations
In July, Chicago Wilderness welcomed
six new members, bringing the total to 154.
The Geneva
Lake Conservancy is based in Fontana, Wisconsin,
and promotes responsible stewardship of the region's land
and water resources through private land conservation measures,
proper zoning and land use controls, and public outreach
and education. The McHenry County Conservation Foundation
promotes, supports, and encourages the charitable, educational,
scientific, and recreational programs, projects, and policies
of the McHenry County Conservation District and other open-space
organizations in McHenry County.
The Friends
of Morton Grove Forest Preserves act as stewards
of the village's woodlands, prairies, and forests, in addition
to being advocates for the restoration and preservation
of the village's natural areas. The North
Branch Restoration Project works with the Forest
Preserve District of Cook County and other agencies to protect
and restore native Illinois ecosystems.
Prairies
Forever is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
promoting the ecological and cultural significance of the
American prairie through education, outreach, and public
engagement. The Wildflower Preservation Society of
Illinois encourages the preservation and appreciation
of our native plants through public lectures and grants
to individuals and organizations. Founded in 1913, the society
was responsible for many wildflower preservation laws in
Illinois.
