Chicago Wilderness Welcomes Six New
Members
On July 16, Chicago Wilderness gained
six new members, bringing the total organizations in the
coalition to 169.
The mission of The
Illinois Endangered Species Protection Board is
to list and de-list endangered and threatened species
of plants and animals and advise the Illinois Department
of Natural Resources on the protection, conservation,
and enhancement of these species.
The Flagg-Rochelle
Community Park District, located west of DeKalb,
Illinois, seeks to develop and maintain a responsive,
efficient, and creative parks and recreation system for
its citizens, including protection and restoration of
natural areas.
Established in 1908, The
Prairie Club is one of this region's oldest conservation
and recreation organizations, promoting outdoor recreation
to acquaint the public with the natural beauty of the
Chicagoland area. The mission of the Prairie Club Conservation
Education Fund is to protect the natural environment
and provide nature experiences to families, youth groups,
students, and educators. The group is working to establish
the "Spring Grove Prairie Legacy Learning Center"
on a 24-acre site in McHenry County, as a regional learning
resource.
The Southeast Environmental Task
Force empowers residents and students of the Southeast
Side and south suburbs of Chicago to improve their local
environment. The organization promotes pollution prevention
and progressive business practices in the Calumet region,
and supports the preservation and restoration of the region's
natural areas, as well as the sustainable development
of industrial lands.
Walworth
County Land Conservancy is a nonprofit organization
in southeastern Wisconsin whose mission is to conserve
and protect significant natural areas, farmlands, and
environmental corridors.
