On the trail of Donald Culross Peattie
and Louise Redfield Peattie

Visitors to The Grove National Historic Landmark in Glenview, Illinois [1421 Milwaukee Ave.; (847) 299-6096] can walk through Redfield House, where Donald Culross Peattie and Louise Redfield Peattie lived in the 1930s while writing their books.

Copies of Donald Culross Peattie’s and Louise Redfield’s books can be found in many libraries of the region, including those at the Chicago Botanic Garden and Chicago Historical Society.

Donald Culross Peattie achieved his greatest fame with An Almanac for Moderns (1935), which was awarded the Limited Editions Club's gold medal. He also was author of numerous other works, including:

He also was a roving editor for Reader's Digest (from 1943), writing dozens of articles for it and other magazines.

Louise Heegaard Redfield Peattie was author of several novels, achieving fame in 1936 with the publication of American Acres. Other works included

She also was the author of numerous articles.
